Indications for a PathoSense analysis

PathoSense has its value when applied wisely. You, as a veterinarian, are utmost important in the decision making for diagnostics and subsequent prevention/therapy. We share 4 tips for maximum value:

  1. Intended use of PathoSense: acute diseased animals within first 2-3 days after onset of clinical signs

  2. Recommended for production animals: samples of up to 5 living animals from different pens can be collected with the same swab to increase sensitivity of pathogen detection at a herd level

  3. The use of samples from dead animals is only recommended if tissues are fresh and do not show signs of post-mortem lysis, recommended within <12h after mortality and if animal was stored at 4°C

  4. Ensure proper cooling (4°C) of samples after collection, during transport and until pickup by courier. Freezing of samples is not recommended.
